Android 4.4 KitKat update out for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

Samsung is rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update to its Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet. The update is currently available only for Wi-Fi(SM-P600) variant, while the 3G and LTE models are expected to get it any moment now.

The KitKat update update brings a new user interface with rounded icons similar to the Galaxy S5. It also brings performance improvements, white status bar icons, wireless printing support, full-screen album art and more. The update is dated April 3rd, which is the latest. It is not clear when Samsung plans to roll out the update globally, but the cellular variant is expected get the update soon.

How to Update :

The KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition is currently rolling out in Columbia and will gradually make it to other regions. However, you can manually check for the update by visiting Settings > General >About phone >Software updates.

Fastlane: Re-tweets and Facebook likes now pop up in Fastlane, as do friends' birthdays.



Parental control: Its new parental controls, one can use a special password or PIN code to control the browser and Store access, putting a stop to unwanted downloads or unexpectedly high data charges.

How to Update

These updates are free and are available over-the-air (OTA). You will see a push notification from Nokia on your phone when the update is ready. In case you have not received it or cannot see the notification, simply go to Settings->Phone Update to check.

How to Install CyanogenMod CM11 Android 4.4 Kitkat on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Custom ROM
Android 4.4 Kitkat can now be installed on Galaxy Note N7100 via CyanogenMod 11. CyanogenMod 11 brings the features and tweaks of the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat firmware which came in Nexus 5. This post will guide you on how to Install CM 11 Android 4.4 Kitkat on Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Custom ROM. Have a look at the following important tips before installing this Custom ROM and keep them in mind.

Important Tips:
  • This tutorial is only for installing CM11 on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100. Please do not try on any other Galaxy Note 2 variants.

  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data. Proceed at your own risk.
  • Perform a Dalvik Cache wipe before proceeding from the recovery mode.
  • Samsung KIES will NOT detect your phone after installing this ROM because it is a custom firmware.
  • This installation will wipe your data. Make sure to backup your phone data.
  • Install Galaxy Note 2 USB drivers -> Download USB Drivers for Galaxy Note 2 N7100.
I have written this detailed and easy to understand step-by-step instructions guide on How to Install CM11 Android 4.4 Kitkat on Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Custom ROM. If you are used to installing custom roms on your Galaxy Note 2, then this should not be any different for you. However, for beginners, it is recommended that you read the whole tutorial before installing this ROM on your device.How to Install CM11 Android 4.4 Kitkat on Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Custom ROM:

Note: You must have CWM 6.0.3.7 or TWRP 2.6.1.0 Recovery Installed on your Galaxy Note 2.

Step 1 – Download the above mentioned files for Galaxy Note 2 to your computer or download them directly to your phone.

Step 2 – Connect and mount your Galaxy Note 2 USB memory on your computer using the USB cable.

Step 3 – Now copy/paste the downloaded cm-11-20131130-Linaro-n7100.zip and Google Apps Zip file to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the SD card root (not in any folder).

Step 4 – Then turn OFF your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.

Step 5 – Now to get in the Recovery Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together.

Step 6 – Once you are in ClockworkMod Recovery, select perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset” as shown below. Use the Power button to select everything while in the Recovery Mode.

Step 7 – Then, perform a cache wipe by selecting “wipe cache partition” as you can see in the image below.

Step 8 – Now this is optional, but it is recommended to perform a wipe of your dalvik cache as well. You will not get into boot loops or any other errors. From CWM recovery, go to ‘advanced’ and then select “wipe dalvik cache”.

Step 9 – Then go back to the main recovery screen and select “install zip from SD card”.
Step 10 – Now select “choose zip from sdcard” as shown below. Using your volume keys, navigate to the cm-11-20131130-Linaro-n7100.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Setup will start now.

Google Apps: Repeat the above step for the Gapps zip file as well and install it on your phone.

Step 11 – After the installation completes, Reboot your phone by selecting “Reboot system now” from ClockworkMod Recovery menu as shown in the picture below. It might take a couple of minutes on first boot. So, be patient.

That’s it! Enjoy the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat Features on your Galaxy Note 2 N7100! Go to Settings > More > About Device to verify. Let me know if you had any problem during the installation process.

How to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100

I have written this post that will guide you on How to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on Android 4.4.2 XXDMF3 Jelly Bean Official Firmware. Note that this process will also install ClockworkMod Custom Recovery on your Galaxy Note 2 As always, before proceeding towards rooting your device, be sure to check out the following Important Tips section and keep them in mind.

Important Tips:
  • Rooting will void your device’s Warranty.
  • This Rooting method is only for Galaxy Note 2 N7100, don’t try this with any other variant of the device.
  • Charge your battery up to 70%.
  • Enable USB debugging. (Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging – check box)
  • Backup your phone data.
  • Make sure USB Drivers are installed properly on your Computer -> Download USB Drivers for Galaxy Note 2 N7100.

How to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on Android 4.1.2 XXDMF3 Jelly Bean Official Firmware:

How to Root

  • Extract Odin zip file and you will get Odin3 v3.09.exe along with few other files.
  • Power off your Android device. Wait 5-6 seconds for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
  • Now, put the Galaxy Note 2 (N7100 / N7102 / N7105) in Download Mode by pressing and holding down theHomeVolume Down and the Power button together. A warning screen will come up; press Volume Up buttonto enter Download Mode.
  • Now run Odin3 v3.09.exe (see Step 3) as an Administrator because Admin privileges is required to complete the process smoothly (only applicable Windows Vista and higher).
  • Now connect your device to your PC using USB cable. An “Added!!” massage will appear in Odin’s message box. If you don’t get the same then you should try another USB port (try USB port located in back in your desktop PC). If that too don’t work then you should reinstall the driver. If you successfully see the “Added!!” message in Odin then you are ready to go in next step. You should also see COM port with a number in Yellow if you successfully added your device.
  • Click the AP Button, and select that .tar file that you downloaded earlier. If you are using old Odin then add the file to PDA button.
  • In Odin window, make sure only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected.
  • Double check everything that we mentioned in Step 7 & Step 8 above. Now, once satisfied hit the START button to begin the flashing process.
  • Once flashing completed, your Galaxy Note 2 (N7100 / N7102 / N7105) will restart and soon you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can now unplug the USB cable to disconnect your device from computer.
  • Congrats! You just installed latest CWM 6.0.4.5 Advance Edition on Galaxy Note 2 (N7100 / N7102 / N7105). To boot into recovery, turn your device off then press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power button for few seconds and soon you will see the CWM 6.0.4.5 Advance Edition screen.

How To Update Sony Xperia SP to Android 4.4 KitKat Through CM11 Port

HowTo Install

1.Copy update on phone
    a.copy update
        
copy update-xxx-xxx-xxx.zip coresponding to your device to sdcard
    b.copy GAPPS
        due to legal rules gapps are not provided into main rom 
        google for gapps package and copy on sdcard

2.Flash CM kernel     a. extract boot.img from zip file 
    b. power off device 
    c. press volume up (2012 devices) / menu (2011 devices)
    d. plug usb and blue led will be lit
    e. on computer type in same folder where you have boot.img
        fastboot flash boot boot.img
        fastboot reboot

        !!! you have to have fastboot.exe in same folder !!!

3.Boot into recovery
    while FXP logo is displayed (and lights are lit) press several times volume up to enter CWM (recovery)

4.Flash ROM
    to update main rom select 
        a.Install zip from sdcard
        b.choose zip from sdcard
        c.select your update (copied at step 2)
    to flash gapps redo steps a-c and select gapps package
        !!! use gapps version designed for your android version !!!

5.Wipe device    from cm9 device wipe is necessary only at first flash or when you switch cm version

    !!! if after boot you experience ForceClose then is recomended to reboot to recovery and wipe device

6.Partition format
    is not recomended to format your partitions unless you are advised to do otherwise

How To Update Sony Xperia M to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean

Sony is rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to its mid-range Xperia M smartphone. The latest update takes the build version to 15.4.A.0.23 and comes with a bunch of new features and enhancements.
The newest firmware comes with an updated camera interface and brings burst and superior auto shooting modes. There is also a new version of battery STAMINA mode that will now help the battery last longer than before.
The Android 4.3 build also comes with enhanced security features, user interface and graphics. Sony's multimedia apps - Walkman, Album and Movies have also been updated.

How To Update Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 to Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

The Galaxy S2 I9100 can now be updated to the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware, thanks to the release of CyanogenMod 11 (CM11) based EHNDROIX V ROM by XDA senior member, AlessandroXCV.
As the ROM is based on the original Android Open Source Project (AOSP) release, it brings stock-like KitKat features on a custom ROM with a completely bloatware-free experience.
Interested users can follow our step-by-step guide to install Android 4.4.2 KitKat on Galaxy S2 I9100 using CM11 based EHNDROIX V ROM.Users are advised to proceed at their own risk.

Pre-requisites

  • The CyanogenMod 11 based EHNDROIX V ROM and the instructions given in this guide are meant for the Galaxy S2 I9100 model only. Verify device model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
  • Back up data and settings using a recommended custom recovery tool, like ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP, as it creates a complete image of the existing phone setup. In Recovery, choose Backup and Restore and tap Backup.
  • Verify correct USB drivers for the phone are installed on the computer (download Galaxy S2 I9100 USB drivers).
  • Ensure USB debugging mode is enabled on the phone, by navigating to Settings > Developer Options (NOTE: Tap the phone's Build Number seven times to unlock or reveal the hidden Developer Options under Settings.) Then select the checkbox to enable USB debugging mode under Settings > Developer Options.
  • Make sure the phone has at least 80% battery charge t o prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) while installing the ROM.
  • Ensure the device is unlocked (not locked to a specific carrier) and rooted with latest ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery (v6.0.4.5) or install CyanogenMod 10.2 Nightly which includes CWM recovery v6.0.4.5.
  • If the device is stuck at booting or experiencing boot loop issues, perform Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache a few more times before rebooting.
  • Allow newly installed ROM to stabilise for five minutes before you start working on it.

Steps to Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat on Galaxy S2 I9100 with CyanogenMod 11 Based EHNDROIX V ROM

Step-1: Download Android 4.4.2 KitKat EHNDROIX V ROM for Galaxy S2 I9100 to computer
Step-2: Download Google Apps package
Step-3: Connect the Galaxy S2 to computer via USB cable. Without extracting, copy the downloaded firmware zip and Google Apps zip files to the root folder of the phone's SD card.
Step-4: Power off the phone and wait for 5 to 10 seconds until the device shuts down completely.
Step-5: Press and hold Volume UpHome and Power buttons together, until the Galaxy S2 logo appears on screen.
Step-6: Release all three buttons at the same time to boot into recovery mode. NOTE: In recovery mode, use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power key to select the desired option.
Step-7: Perform Wipe data/Factory reset (this will delete all apps and their settings and game progress) and choose Yes on next screen to confirm the action.
Step-8: Return to CWM recovery main menu and select Mounts and Storage Format Systemand click Yes on next screen to confirm. Then perform Wipe Cache Partition. From the main menu of CWM recovery, go to Advanced and choose Wipe Dalvik Cache. Then hit Yes on next screen to confirm.
NOTE: Flash CyanogenMod 10.2 Nightly before you proceed (use step 9). Once CM 10.2 Nightly is flashed, you will have access to CWM recovery v6.0.4.5 and then you can install/flash CyanogenMod 11 ROM (repeat step 9).
Step-9:Select Install Zip from sdcard and then click Choose zip from sdcard. Browse to the location of the EHNDROIX V ROM filewhich you copied earlier to your phone's SD card. Choose Yes on next screen to confirm the firmware installation.
Step-10: Repeat the previous step to install Google Apps as well.
Step-11: Once Google Apps is also installed, select "+++++Go Back+++++" and reboot the phone by tapping reboot system now from the recovery menu. Your Galaxy S2 I9100 will restart and it may take about 5 minutes for first boot. So, do not interrupt the process.
Your Galaxy S2 I9100 is now running on Android 4.4 KitKat via CyanogenMod 11 based EHNDROIX V ROM. Go to Settings > About Phone to verify the firmware installed.
